The Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting held at Henfield CC on Tuesday
6th July were approved and signed. Matters arising were dealt with as below.
Proposed Changes to Rule
The questionnaire compiled by Malcolm Page (Lindfield) had been sent to clubs. It was asked whether the West Sussex League were aware of the changes and the
impact any passed could have upon them. Mr Claydon wondered whether the wording
of section 8 re time lost to bad weather would be clear to umpires and captains and thought it necessary to state that ten-team divisions in 2005, 2006 and 2007
would mean two matches in April or one each in both April and September.
Sunday Cup Competition
Nothing had been heard as to an ECB decision on Pagham's challenge to the Executive Committee's ruling re their cancelled match at East Preston. Members up-held Mr Semmons' decision to award to Arundel their unplayed quarter-final
versus Crawley Eagles whose ground was ruled unfit for July 11th by Crawley Council
but who didn't respond to Arundel's offer to use their ground instead. Arundel will meet Ifield in the final at the County Ground on Monday 30th August,
commencing at the changed time of 1.30pm. Admission would be free and Mr Semmons
invited all clubs to attend.
Disciplinary Report
Letters from both the chairman and umpire of Slinfold alleged bad language and an end-of-match attack on an opponent by a Storrington player named as Paul
Smith. No written response had been forthcoming from Storrington and there was
no knowledge of any action being taken by the club against the player concerned.
As comments had been attributed to Slinfold fielders, it was agreed that both clubs should appear at an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee to be
held at Henfield Cricket Club on Tuesday 24th August at 8pm (the two clubs at
8.15pm) when the possibility of deducting points would be considered. In the meantime Paul Smith would be suspended from playing within the League.
Letter from Barns Green CC
The club had queried the inclusion in Billingshurst 's 1st XI on July 31st of Sussex CCC player Richard Montgomerie and questioned whether
he was bona fide club member. Billingshurst would be asked if this was so. His inclusion was
considered not to be in the best interests of the game and the playing of regular
Sussex League players was also queried by members.
Reports and Other Business
Mr Semmons reported a balance of £2,842, which included club deposits of £760;
fines so far totalled £305. Mr Claydon advised that end-of-season forms had been sent out and that there had been 18 fines for late receipt of match details
forms up to July 24th; in addition, a number of envelopes showed Tuesday post-marks and nine of the forms for July 31st were still awaited.
Notices had been sent to clubs relating to the Annual Dinner. The Lords cricket
balls sent to the League for trial had kept their shine; it was reported that the ball currently in use tended to lose its shine comparatively quickly.
The next monthly meeting of the Executive Commence will be held at Henfield CC on Tuesday 7th September at 8 o'clock.
