August 30th : The final Division Title is resolved at an emotional SOUTHWICK ground where the hosts win to claim their second Div. 2 2nd XI title in a win that the Club would like to dedicate to one of their players, Jamie Trott, who sadly died earlier in the week after a car accident, the SICL would like to pass on its condolences to his family and Southwick C.C for their loss. Only one century on the final day went to Sean Rebbetts of East Preston 1st's with 121. Andy Ide took the best bowling figures with 7 for 53 for Rustington 2nds. There are record points totals for Broadwater 1st's and Southwater 1st's in Divisions 1 and 2. While Scaynes Hill 2nd's finish runners-up in Div. 2 for the 3rd time. 49 centuries were scored this season with Darryl Rebbetts hitting the most with 3. A total of 69 occasions of 6 wkts or more were recorded with Greg Thwaites taking 4 or more wkts 8 times and 50 wkts for the season. The other promotion and relegation issues may become clearer following the next League meeting (Sep. 9th) when further information and hopefully a resolution to the proposed merger with the West Sussex League will be clarified and confirmation over which places will lead to promotion and relegation will be announced. August 23rd : SOUTHWATER 1st's claim the Div. 2 Title and head for Div. 1 for the first time next season, congratulations to them. SOUTHWICK and SCAYNES HILL 2nd's are promoted from Div. 2 with the title to be decided by their games next week (Southwick need 26 pts). Southwick & Wisborough Green 1st's are relegated from Div 1 while Southwater 2nd's are also relegated in Div. 1. Storrington 1st's need to get 18 pts next week to guarantee promotion but may have done enough already to go up if the restructuring doesn't go ahead. Individually today, 2 centurions, Dave Burtenshaw 107* (Portslade 2nd's) and Bradley James 100* (Clymping 2nd's). The bowlers were again in good form this week as 5 took 6 or more wkts and 3 took 7 wkts in their matches with the best figures coming from Felbridge & Sunnyside bowlers Kevin Andrews from the 2nd XI team with 7-17 and Chris Richens from the 1st's taking 7-36. Paul Grennan (Southwick 1st's) claimed the other 7 wkt haul, 7-46. Kevin Johnson (Broadwater) took his best ever 1st XI figs with 6-28. August 17th : BROADWATER complete the SICL treble with victory in the Sunday Cup Final against Horsham Trinity to go with their 1st & 2nd XI League titles, however they make heavy weather of chasing down Horsham's 130 all out. After cruising at 122-2 Broadwater lose 5 wkts for 7 runs with Nigel Smith taking 4 wkts for 1 run (a wide) in the space of 11 balls but they nervously cross the line to win by 3 wkts with just over 9 overs to spare. |
